thoughts for the week

random observations:

chris davis (beast) has the chuck liddell mohawk, while mine is a bit more travis barker.

I'm excited to see angelina jolie's next film, Wanted.   It looks like another matrix/equilibrium type action film, which I tend to enjoy.

Interleague play is pretty cool, although 2008 passes without me getting an at-bat.  Again.  I'm  still feeling skunked when Showalter and Hershiser didn't let me face Rick Helling @ pro player in 2005 in my MLB debut.   David Delucci popped up the first pitch.

Weather here in Texas is something I'll never get used to...97* yesterday and tonight we played at least 4 innings in the rain/lightning.

warner "mad dog" madrigal has arrived in arlington.

least favorite thing about baseball season- farmer tans.

we're going to New York to play for the last time in Yankee Stadium...I can't say I'll miss playing there because I'm sure the new stadium won't smell so bad in the tunnels...a random fact- shea stadium smells worse.  kudos to both teams for upgrading.

our generation of players has it really easy- we've never played in old milwaukee, old cleveland, old detroit, old pittsburgh, the kingdome, etc.- all of which enjoy less than stellar reps among veteran guys.

the all-star break is almost here...how many rangers will make it? 5 Extremely deserving guys.

Hamilton- beast
Kinsler- best hitting leadoff hitter in 08
Bradley-leading AL in every percentage/average
Young- deer
Padilla-aka  the flotilla, aka the chief- already has notched 10 wins

we're such a better team than we were last year...I can't wait til we actually get something rolling...

best "walk-out song" used by a pitcher:    east bound and down (smokey and the bandit theme song) used by Ranger reliever Josh Rupe

best "fan group" in a road city:  Lance Berkman's Pumas.   I have no words commeasurate of  their glory.

best "behind the scenes clubhouse thing of 2008": watching Frank "el jugador" Francisco play chess.  some "true player wisdom" that brings joy to my day each time I hear or see it:

"A true player moves likes this...(while attacking)"
"right there?  right there?(when opponent moves piece multiple times before deciding)"
"let me eat this little snack (as he takes a pawn)"
"you gonna lose your horse.  seriously.(obvious)"

i lovee mohawks! lol
i'm feening to see wanted. going to go see it soon. it looks awesome.
i love interleague play as well. it's pretty funny to see the pitchers taking an at bat. i hate that there are so few interleague games played though.
the weather here in new york has been pretty unpredictable lately too. i'm hoping i can go to one of the games this week. even though i'm a yankee fan, i'll wish you the best of luck :)

Any chance of getting Ian to sport a curly 'hawk? Actually, he's probably imposing enough already.

ian's working on longer hair right now and it seems to suit him well.

Um, yes, Josh Hamilton is most certainly a beast.
I've lived my whole life here and I'm still not used to the weather. At least we have a roof on our stadium, not that they actually ever turn the AC on :)
The Little Pumas are amazing. Any man willing to wear a puma outfit in public deserves a badge of honor.
I'm lovin' the mohawks.

By the way CJ, I like the necklace you wear on the mound. It kind of gives you the whole hippie/granola look, which I think you can pull off (Guardado, for instance...not so much). What's the story with it? Does it have some sort of sentimental value? Or is it the true secret source of power for the heat that you throw. What's the story?

PS - Don't get me wrong, I still think Eddie is the man.

Agreed on Ian's hair and the best walk-out song. I admit I had to google the lyrics to that song, and it's VERY appropriate for Rupe and his role on this team. Great to have him in the 'pen again this year. As long as he doesn't wear a speedo. Ever again. :)

Hey C.J. I have a couple of questions. First, is Gerald Laird recovering from the hamstring injury? I hope he is back behind the plate soon. Salty rocks but I haven't seen Laird catch at the games I have been to so far this season. Also, I noticed that Cat has been playing the bench a lot the last week or two. Is that going to be a permanent thing? I like watching Cat also. I was listening to the announcers Lewin and Grieve talk about nicknames a few weeks ago. I have thought of a nickname for you. Seige. It kind of combines the C and J and it means "The surrounding and blockading of a city, town, or fortress by an army attempting to capture it." This is what you do to teams everytime you close a game.

Dude, if chris had a popular nickname like "puma" I would dress as that every week. You got the power to make Chris' nickname popular. Hulk smash homerun in Yankee stadium 415 feet!

for all the P1s out there, i found this blog entry from grubes that you might enjoy.

What's up CJ! Love the blog. Hoping to make the trek up to Baltimore to see you and J-Ham in early august!

Good luck -
Colin

CJ, You crack me up with all of your randomness. I do wonder what President Bush thought of the mohawk. I had to laugh at the comment that not many guys with mohawks and tattoos have stood in the oval office. Not a good game in Baltimore at the moment. But I bet the fireworks are going to be AMAZING!

Ceej,
i love the randomness in your blogs! thank god i'm not the only one who does it! so what else do yall do on the road to pass the time?
**and i agree with your assessment of hamilton and davis........they are both beasts and awesome additions to the team! i really like that the team is growing right now. it sucks that guys keep getting hurt but the cycling in of new talent is fun to watch!
**i have always wanted to be a fly on the wall in the bull pen to see what wacky stuff y'all say back there(in the dugout too for that matter) i know y'all are just people that have cool jobs but as a fan i wonder what a day in the life of a texas ranger looks like. as i watch y'all play i think about how y'all are as people off the field.
*do you wanna see get smart? my hubby and i saw it the other day and it's good if you like those kind of movies!
**what other tats do you have?

LOVE what the team is doing right now. Love. love. love. It's so nice to turn on espn w/out having to grumble back at the tv. My husband is a Yankees fan and a "part-time" Rangers fan, and I have to say, it's SO nice to have him turn "his" games off to watch the rest of "ours."

Sad to see the team overall get burned by the whole "major market" thing yet again in the AS game, though. Voting needs improvement, srsly.

hey c.j.! i'm your friend on myspace (hannah). hehe. yeah, chris 'crush' davis said on rangers insider that his hair was 'chaotic' and it stemmed from triple-a. i've lived in texas my entire life and the weather is so unpredictable. you think you've got it figured out, then BOOM! it changes. haha. yeah, i think our boys will represent well. one of them totally did tonight! man, hambone is totally amazing.

CJ___

I read this morning that your fastball is very difficult for you to predict its path.

Hello, CJ, grip it on the threads and grip it with equally 'tight' pressure on the middle and index finger. You might tape the other two fingers together when messing around with changing your grip.

Hey CJ ..... Quit floating around on the mound and THROW THE HEATER! You have the stuff - trust it and thrown the darn heater - mix the nasty sldr in - don't doll around. You have to get ahead - stay ahead - throw the heater 1 2 3 and get to the bench! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
