easing back into it
I've been on a blogging hiatus for various reasons, but today finds me in Kansas City, and a frequent adventure of mine- where to find breakfast.
But first, how about a bit of pro-ball dining background...
One of the best things about being in the majors is that we no longer have to visit cities like clinton, Iowa or other cities (especially the South Atlantic League) where the best option for dining at any hour is a Waffle House. In the Florida State League, we got stuck eating Chili's for 4 days in Vero Beach. Since then, I've never been able to look at queso dip without getting sick to my stomach.
Nothing against waffle house, but after a few years in the minors, you get sick of those type of places...
So back to present day, and it's 78* in KC. Great day for a walk, but after missing breakfast by six minutes at a local place across from the hotel -"we stopped serving breakfast at 1030"- I decide to go for plan B.
find a coffee shop, get a fruit smoothie, and walk in circles until I can get a Sunrise Quesadilla from Cheesecake Factory, which didn't open until 11am...

sideline notes-
best investment I've made this season- buying an Optoma portable video projector... so many hotels now have the XBOX/PS3 connection stuff blocked that it's easier to lug a 5lb projector around for our Halo games...coupled with a small iPod speaker dock, we get some intense battles and irritate the neighboring rooms quite well.
23 Minutes- that's the time I can go from empty bags and not being packed at all to being out the door, dressed in my travel suit, and lugging my bags to my car. I'd like to get it down to 20 minutes flat eventually. The real key is that I set all my shirts down on the bed, lay them flat, then roll them up. this way they never get wrinkled or creased. Folding is a total waste of time and for you frequent travelers, you might want to rethink it!
Interleague play arrives! I realize that as the closer I'll probably never be in a situation where my hitting skills are required, but it was awesome to be able to take a short batting practice on the field in Arlington last homestand. Breaking up the standard routine is huge during the season to avoid groundhog's day syndrome* Just in case, I'll be swinging one of David Murphy's bats.
*GDS arises often with baseball players and is first noticed with symptoms such as forgetting what day/date it actually is, only knowing what time the game starts.

Glad to see the hiatus is FINALLY over!!!!! I really enjoy your blog not only do we get your perspective on the season and baseball, we get to see the life of a big leaguer outside of baseball! Hope to see them hitting skills sometime during interleague play! So Milton Bradley, does he really think he's god's gift to baseball or does he just have a bad attitude? Someone needs talk to him about having a little more Love and Respect for the game of baseball and his team!! Thanks
Peace, Love & Baseball

yep, its a real syndrome. although, for most of us, it involves taking the same way to work and running the same weekly reports.

What a wonderful treat to see a blog from you again;I was begining to think I was going to have to buy you a new computer so your blogs would start showing up again. It was almost as long as the time from saying Corbin and I saying "good bye" to you at Surprise Stadium to saying "hello" again last Friday at the Ballpark.
About this borrowing David's bat... C.J. don't you think it is time to order a couple of blue bats from Louisville Slugger wilth your name on them? It just sounds right, besides Corbin would like finding a blue C.J. Wilson bat under the tree for Christmas from your first "blue bat" hit.
Enjoy the trip at Shea, we are wanting a sweep. Let the guys know we are behind them back here in Texas and tell Milton we believe he deserves better than the press deals him; Milton has always been kind and generious to us when we have seen him and he is one heck of a ball player.
Rock on!

thanks everyone!
But I must say to Ashley- you couldn't be further from the truth in the case of Milton. I really don't know why you think you can say he needs to respect the game more, or his team. He's a really passionate competitive guy and he plays the game hard- he wants to win and puts his heart into each pitch of the game. Not too many people can say that about their favorite players. I've known MB since back in 1996 when we played against each other the Connie Mack summer league back in Long Beach...and have always respected his talent. He's a lot of fun to watch, and will do whatever it takes to beat the other team. So honestly- you've got no clue about how cool, professional, funny, and likeable he really is in the clubhouse either.

I know MB is a great player and were so lucky to have his talent here in Texas!!! I enjoy watching him play, but I guess listening to the broadcastors and media portray him as a mean spirited ill tempered guy with no respect has taken it's toll on me. Your right I don't get to see the likeable, funny guy he is, I see the 10 seconds in the dugout yelling after a strike(10 seconds isn't a great thing to judge a guy on). Well I apologize for my presumption of MB, I'm fortunate that you have taught me otherwise and I wish you both the best of luck this season!!!

I'm glad your blogging again. I heard an announcer say, you said you threw the Gyro for a game ending K. WTG
Although they didn't believe it's a real pitch. I believe they said....."Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a screwball pitch" Whatever! LOL Lets hear from the batter and ask what pitch he says it was.

Nice save today against the Nats CJ. Keep it up because I'd rather see you over Benoit in the closers position this season. And tell me when are we gonna see Blalock debut at first base?

You are a really good pitcher. It's in you, this incredible talent. Own it. By owning it you become more powerful than anyone you face and it doesn't belong to your jewelry, or haircut, or anything outside of you. It belongs to you. The only thing keeping you from it is your superstition. Trust your skills and own your talent and you are unstoppable. You are as good as they say you are, the only thing stopping you is your inability to embrace the greatness that is CJ Wilson without passing it on to some outside power.

CJ, I promise to check your blog daily from now on. Like to see your insight on the team and the game. I also want to say how much I enjoy watching you pitch. As one of the previous commentors' said. "you are a really good pitcher." I especially like the way you work on the mound. You've got "it." It's a pleasure to watch you.

C.J. I agree with alind20308! Its not your hair, where you live, what car you drive that determines how good you are and who you are meant to be. You know greatness is inside of you. Being the role model to the younger generation, you gave a negative thought last week to them. Saying you needed to look mean to be good, so go cut your hair!! You don't need that to be the person you are met to be. Sometimes it takes time to be the BEST of the BEST. Its when we are in the trenches, and valleys that our character is being tested. Just like in special friendships, relationships it takes time to nurture, water, and grow together to be at that special place. You don't let go of someone special because of a superstitious thought, like you did with cutting your hair. If it is met to be we have to allow it to happen, to see where it goes. Keep up the great work, and know you got what it takes to be the BEST! Jake

thanks guys, but you do realize that at least 50% of the quotes that the reporters put me down for are total BS right?
to be good, I need to make good pitches...that's it.

Read your My-space page, and felt bad about your feelings on love. Let go of that dark cloud, and negative thoughts of what happened in the past, so it will allow you to be open to that special person that you could of been introduced to already, or know, but that dark vibe, is holding back from allowing it to happen. I know several successful men in their industry not truly happy because they missed out on that special someone while they were climbing the path to top, and don't have the joy of sharing success with that soul mate, that makes them smile thinking of them. It won't happen for you if your head thinks of being fooled again. If you are shy like I read, you will want someone outgoing. Celebrities have a harder time trusting and believing in others. Thats why you see so many celebrities with celebrities. It will happen when you don't think negative on finding true love, most of the time she is right there, and we don't know it.
