start planning ahead?- updated
nobody has to get me anything for my birthday, whatever you would spend on something like that, just donate to charity- our Halo 3 event benefit towards a video game room for the kids at Cook's children's hospital in Fort Worth is coming up soon. Abby Teaff, who it seems is my personal PR liason with the Rangers, is setting up the venue and gaming people- the date is going to be
OCTOBER 17TH
CJ Wilson's Halo 3 Challenge, presented by Live 105.3 FM
We will also have a Guitar Hero 3 event when I get back from Europe in November, date TBA.
So- why a video game equipment as the goal? Well first of all, I love video games, and since most of the kids who receive both outpatient and in house treatments, such as chemotherapy and clotting treatments (for children with hemophilia) can't exactly go shoot hoops and ride horses while they're in there- video games allow for interaction with the other kids, their siblings, and are a great way to pass the time in a positive, stimulating manner. Anything to make their situations a little easier to cope with is a good thing in my mind.
I feel like my young friends on myspace can relate- that's why so many of you showed up to the GH2 event at House of Blues last month...if young people start mixing a little charity into our routines, by the time we're 40,50, 60 years old we will have helped a lot of people in various walks of life. There is more of a personal connection with the youth crowd for me, and I'd like to be an example of how to help others while simultaneously enjoying yourself and keeping it real...

Hey CJ' Good thinking I hope the event go's well. I work at a Gelatos shop in Austin Tx, and I love to see the kids joy when they come in my shop and have gelato. Keep on working hard and have a good tip in Europe. Get back safe so we can kick some b@tt. Happy up coming B-day. Tell the team there the best' That's me keep it real. Go Ranger!!!!

I think those would be awesome presents! I think it is great what you do for charity. Some people just donate money, and there is nothing wrong with that of course, but as Kahlil Gibran said, "It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." And like you said, something that interests you, instead of a golf tourney or something like that. I think it is great. I hope you have a happy birthday and a great off-season. Good luck with your events.

Video games sound like an awesome contribution. Are you familiar with Childsplay (www.childsplaycharity.org)? They do something like that all over the country.

Good job on the charity work CJ. It's good to see ya'll do so much for the community. Did you hear about Mark Ecko's 756 ball? He's letting the public decide on what to do with it. www.vote756.com to vote for A. Give it to cooperstown, B. Give it to cooperstown with an asterisk branded into it, or C. Put it on a rocket ship and shoot it into space. I think C is stupid...I voted for B. I think there should be a fourth option to vote on though...Give it to Michael Vick so he can use it as a chew toy.

I am so sad that I won't be able to make it on October 11. I am taking my girls to see the Lion King at Fair Park that evening. The video room is a fabulous idea!! My daughter had heart surgery at Cook Children's hospital and still goes in at least every 2 years for a day of testing. A place for children who have had obstacles placed in front of them to be a kid is such a great thing to do. I do plan on coming to the next event in November. It has been a lot of fun watching the team this year. Have a great off season.
